Certificates and awards

Environmental and quality goals have always been at the centre of corporate decisions and actions at PAPSTAR. An integrated management system safeguards the continuous improvement of inhouse processes in quality, ecology, social issues and economy.

Clear Positioning

PAPSTAR demonstrates the responsibility it takes for man, nature and the environment not least by constantly monitoring and improving all processes in place at the company with regard to ecological, social and economic aspects. By doing so the company makes a clear statement about sustainability.

Focus on quality

PAPSTAR product ranges comprise the key focus of the company's overall journey towards sustainability. On this path, both environmental and social aspects are taken into consideration as well as high quality requirements. When selecting products and during production, the company aligns itself with quality seals from independent bodies. Awards like the GREEN BRANDS quality label or inclusion in the select circle of the "Great German Brands of the Century" confirm the company's own aspiration and, together with a comprehensive corporate communication concept, enhance the brand profile.

The Green Dot - Dual System

By participating in "Der Grüne Punkt - Duales System Deutschland, Gesellschaft für Abfallvermeidung und Sekundärrohstoffgewinnung mbH", PAPSTAR GmbH successfully contributed in2020 to the savings in CO₂ emissions that the corresponding certificate makes traceable.

"The Green Dot" was founded intentionally by an association of companies - including PAPSTAR - operating in the food and packaging industry in Germany immediately before the Packaging Ordinance came into force in 1991. It was established as a second system of disposal parallel to the existing public waste disposal system, hence the name "Dual".

Environmental aspects and quality requirements

At PAPSTAR, the development and design of the product range is driven forward based on clearly defined principles. Environmental and social aspects are given consideration on a par with the requirements for high quality. Key product ranges are designed to come into contact with foodstuffs, so the company has a special responsibility to place multiple aspects of food hygiene and safety, and therefore the health of the end consumer, at the forefront of every product and product range decision.

Seedling
DIN EN 13432

A European standard for compostable materials is BS EN 13432 (Keimling - seedling). With appropriate industrial composting, more than 90 percent of the product is biodegraded after 80 days. After six months, even the smallest particles (less than 2 millimetres) are metabolised in their entirety. DIN CERTCO Gesellschaft für Konformitätsbewertung mbH (Berlin) has certified various PAPSTAR products made of compostable materials. The producers of the certified products hold the main certificates in each case.

OK compost Home -
TÜV Austria

The comparatively low volume of waste makes the temperature in a garden compost heap significantly lower and less constant than in an industrial composting environment - hence the process is slower and more difficult. The innovative answer from TÜV AUSTRIA comes in the form of the "OK compost HOME" certification system also used by PAPSTAR. Although the certificate does not explicitly make reference to a specific standard, it still lists all the technical requirements a product has to fulfil in order to be awarded certification.

Nordic Swan
Ecolabel

In Scandinavia, paper and timber producers have joined forces and use the Nordic Swan Ecolabel (issuing body: Miljömärkning Sverige AB) to evaluate the entire production process for products. The aim is to certify only those products for which the entire production process - from raw material extraction to manufacturing and waste disposal - has as little an impact on the environment as possible. At PAPSTAR, the label also stands for compliance with various ecological, qualitative and health-related criteria.

TÜV Rheinland
(suitable for foodstuffs)

TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH (Cologne) checks whether substances that put human health at risk or change the composition, smell or taste of food are transferred from what are known as food contact materials to food. A test catalogue has been defined for this purpose which, depending on the product, sets minimum standards for the property "suitable for foodstuffs" when used as intended. The manufacturer's specifications are checked by PAPSTAR.

Blue Angel -
The Ecolabel

The Blue Angel is an environmental label according to BS EN ISO14024, which is valid in Germany for especially environmentally friendly products and services under the auspices of the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation. Its purpose is to make recognisable environmentally friendly developments and alternatives where conventional products pollute the environment. Products worthy of the award - including some from PAPSTAR - go through an award procedure at the Federal Environment Agency.

For us, sustainability is foremost in everything we do. It has long since evolved to become the core message of our PAPSTAR brand!
