Zero Waste Cycle
EVENT OF THE FUTURE
If everything is well prepared and communicated, ‘Zero Waste’ is a viable concept for events of the future! This is demonstrated by the experience PAPSTAR gains year after year as the host of the Eifel Oldie Night on its own premises, in aid of the ‘Hilfsgruppe Eifel – Hilfe für krebskranke Kinder e.V.’. (Help for children with cancer)
Using a smart, two-part return logistics system involving return stations and service staff, the used and significantly space-saving disposable tableware is sorted and collected in sturdy kraft paper bags. A waste management company organises the smooth transport to the nearest recycling centre or waste management facility equipped with a bio-converter.
The outcome of this commitment to sustainability could not have been better. Together, we ensured that not even a single chip fork was carelessly or haphazardly discarded. A clean affair!
Recycling Cycle
A bio-converter is used to process the fibres from used disposable tableware. The secondary raw material obtained in this way is then processed into cardboard.
MATERIAL: Single-use products made from renewable raw materials such as cardboard, paperboard, wood, sugar cane, palm leaves or agricultural waste.
RETURN: Separate collection of single-use products made from renewable raw materials.
BIO CONVERTER: Using patented microbes and a sanitisation function, food scraps and organic waste of plant origin, or disposable tableware made from renewable raw materials, can be transformed into a new secondary raw material through a fibre-recovery treatment process.
SECONDARY RAW MATERIAL: Flaky output material with a high cellulose content.
RECYCLING: The output material from the bioconverter can be used to manufacture new products.
FINAL PRODUCT: Wrapping board for use as interleaving material in the packaging industry and for stackable goods. During the production process, the material – which is derived in part from waste paper – is applied in layers to a forming roller until the desired thickness is achieved.
As part of its ongoing development of circular material flow management solutions, PAPSTAR is currently working on the future use of used disposable tableware made from renewable raw materials in the production of nutrient substrates for healthy soil (biochar, terra preta = black earth). In addition to improving soil quality and increasing crop yields, carbonisation can also be used to sequester and thus reduce CO₂ emissions.
Sharks follow their
natural instinct
As a founding club of the German Ice Hockey League, the Kölner Haie stand for fairness, respect and forward-thinking commitment. At the ‘Kölnarena 2’ training centre, catering products made from renewable raw materials are used; after use, these can be processed into a secondary raw material using a bio-converter.
